Developer: We added a new “property-style” XML file format. This is an alternative way of storing data loaded via import, and is mostly intended for embedding data within game content. It is optional and can be skipped in the engine files.
Data loading in Electra is now asynchronous. This makes it possible to load data in parallel, giving roughly the same performance improvement as decorators in regular signle-threaded applications. Developers lose the ability to have separate threads for loading data, but it is nice that they no longer need to explicitly wait for data to load.
Implementation: We added a new IFileFormat helper and some data-loading helpers like LoadFromFile(). We also added new structs for creating custom load-from-file data, which can be used with the new Importer::LoadFromFile() api.
Game-maker: We added a new PreloadAudioFile helper. PreloadAudioFile() automatically starts playing file as soon as it loads. The SDL2 SDL_RWops type is used to support reading from embedded assets.
Hey there, it’s that time of year again – a new update of the X2 plugin sampler!
Last year, we released the X2 plugin to the public, and we’ve been listening to your feedback ever since (of course, we have a lot to listen to…). The plugin and its update have been met with great interest (as well as some confusion ?), and we’ve heard that you want more textures, more sounds, more usability in general. We have a bit more to work on, though, before we’re ready for an Early Access release. We’re planning to add more voices, improve the UI, add some more sounds, among many other things.
This update will also bring cleaner recording sessions for the plugin, and a lot more accurate documentation. This is Version 22 of the plugin, and also brings a new feature – look forward to more information in the next few months as we move forward with this update. Here’s the full release notes.
