Layer Masks are most commonly used to hide or reveal specific layers of an image or group of layers. With the help of Layer Masks you can quickly add lines (or any kind of visual effect) over your entire layer of photo editing or design software. You can create and delete Layer Masks by clicking one of the four visual line shapes on Layer Masks thumbnail bar. As a toolset, 3D was in an excellent position. It was robust, and its feature set was pragmatic. But the capabilities of its toolset have been superseded by the new native APIs, as well as the emerging use cases for 2D and 3D content that we’ll be building with Substance.

Your typical Photoshop workflow would involve creating a 3D object in 3D, and arranging that object into layers with various effects on it. Once it’s finished, we would turn your image (or selection) into a Type layer, and apply 3D effects to your image on the Type layer.
