A.torrent file is used by BitTorrent[a] users to exchange the pieces of a file or set of files. Each piece is a data chunk sent to the recipient, in the order specified in the.torrent file. It is also used by the BitTorrent client software to verify that each received piece is valid. Pieces are connected together in a chain, so an invalid piece results in the whole chain being invalid.
